A gigabyte (GB) is a measure of computer storage capacity. The prefix, "giga" comes from a Greek word meaning "giant." A gigabyte is approximately equal to a billion bytes. A byte on most computers usually represents a single character such as a letter, number, or symbol. The storage capacity for digital media such as hard drives, DVD, blu-ray discs are denoted in GB.
