A report by the office of national statistics reveals that 37% of pensioners living alone have internet access.
The vast majority of those who didn't have internet access claimed that they 'didn't need the internet'. 18% of those interviewed said that the 'cost of the equipment' and 'monthly internet fees' was the reason for not having the internet.
In contrast, 78% of those below the retirement aged who lived alone had internet access.
