Facebook today announced the launch of a new messaging system that merges SMS texts, online chat and email messages into one central hub.
The social networking website claim that email is too slow and that a new messaging system is needed to incorporate all modern communication tools.
Reporters and analysts had suggested that the new tool called 'Facebook Messages' would be a huge threat to Google Gmail. However, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said "This is not an email killer. Email is still really important to a lot of people."
The new messaging system will be introduced slowly over the next few months.
