Cheesesoft Spyware Cease
This product has been dis-continued by Cheesesoft .
• Fast Scans
• Attractive Interface
• Useful extras
• Poor Support
• Bad reputation
Overall Spyware Cease is a quality anti-spyware program. It has the fastest scans, a variety of features, and will definitely keep your PC clean. The downfall of the program seems to be in it's poor support and reputation. However, many of these problems seem to have been fixed in the newest version. It's not the best out there, but you can definitely do worse.
The setup is a basic, quick start-up. After purchasing the product for $34.95, the program will take seconds after download to be ready to use. There is also a trial version which offers free scans and real-time protection, but you will have to get the full version to remove any detected spyware. To upgrade to the full version, you will just need to enter the registration key you receive after purchasing it from their website.
The scan speed of Spyware Cease is very quick and gives you an updated list of all of the infections found as it finds them. After the scan is complete, you can look over the list and remove all or certain files deemed as dangerous. If you see a file that clearly isn't a threat and you don't want it popping up every time you run a scan, you can put it on a safe list so you never have to deal with it again. The scan is both fast and convenient.
One redeeming quality about Spyware Cease is it did not report fake files as spyware in it's trial version to persuade people into thinking they need to buy their product. Many, if not most, anti-spyware programs often report non-malicious files as a threat. Previous versions of this program were guilty of this practice, but it's a relief to see this version clean up it's act. The real-time guard protects against a wide variety of threats, so this program definitely lowers your chances of being infected.
Spyware Cease is extremely light on computer resources and you won't notice any dip in performance whatsoever. Even when it's performing a scan, your PC will still be running at top performance. It may be the lightest anti-spyware program you will find.
The program will be set up to automatically check for and install updates. You can also choose to update the program manually if you wish, but it is best to get updates as quick as possible to keep up with the latest threats.
Spyware Cease has plenty of features to keep you happy. Yes it has the usual features like scheduled scans and automatic updates, but it also has some unique built-in features that you just won't find in other anti-spyware programs.
One feature that will help keep your PC safe is the program's Vulnerability Scanner. It will check your computer's settings and let you see what settings should be changed. It checks settings like firewall, remote desktop, and any folders that are shared with other users on your network.
Other features built into the program include file cleanup, registry fix, and start-up optimization. There are also plenty of other useful features in there. This isn't a vanilla spyware program.
Ease of use
Spyware Cease is fairly easy to use. The basic functions of scanning and removing spyware should be easy enough for anybody with any level of computer skill to figure out. However, the more advanced functions is where a novice computer user may run into trouble. The program doesn't do a great job of explaining some functions so an average user will likely not know what to do or be too afraid to give something a try. Overall the user interface is organized, attractive, and simple to navigate.
Help & support
The support for this product isn't too great. There is a help tutorial that comes up when you hit the help button on the main screen of the program, but there isn't any phone or chat support on the product website. The site only has help tickets, which means you will never get immediate help. Similar programs have phone, chat, and even remote help to solve any problems.
There is much to like about Spyware Cease. It has fast scans, tons of features, and protects your computer from a diverse set of threats. However, going by user reviews, previous versions of the program seems to have a bad reputation of fake spyware reports, support problems, and others. The newest version seems to be more honest in their scans, as our computer came back with only one threat with a low level of risk. Overall it's actually a very solid anti-spyware program, but you can find better value elsewhere.
