Driver Whiz Review
Technology should make our lives easier
• Features a large driver database
• Straight forward user interface
• Creates restore points before installing drivers
• Good range of customer support options
• No schedule scan feature
• Limited security information available
Driver Whiz does a good job in scanning your computer for outdated drivers and effectively updates them to the latest version. However, the lack of information provided about its security policy is a significant draw back.
The software has a quick and easy installation process. Once installation is complete, an initial backup of your drivers is made and a driver scan is conducted.
Driver Whiz detected almost all the outdated drivers on our test computer. The scan results clearly listed the dated drivers but it did not show important information such as the version or how dated the driver actually is. It is important to note that the scanning process did take longer than usual but the results produced justify the time taken. Once the scan is complete, the process of updating the drivers is straight forward. Users can select individual drivers to update or automatically update all the drivers found in the scan. Once the driver updates were complete, we ran another scan to ensure that the drivers were all up to date and the scan verified that all the drivers were updated to the latest version.
The software has access to a database of over 20 million drivers. It supports major Windows operating systems, including: Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. A database of this size is capable of sufficiently keeping a Windows system up to date with the latest drivers.
There is limited information available in regards to Driver Whiz’s security measures and it is not known where the driver files are acquired from. The website states that the drivers are completely free of any kind of malware, which is a good sign. On another positive note, the Driver Whiz website states that all personal information is stored on a secure server and that no personal information is shared which provides some level of assurance to customers.
Driver Back up – The software creates a full backup of the existing drivers on the computer and allows the user to save the backup to an external data device. This also allows makes it easy to revert back to a previous restore point in case a driver causes system instability.
Migration Tool – A migration CD can be created with all the latest drivers for an operating system of your choice.
Ease of use
The software is fairly straight forward to use for users of all experience levels. The intuitive graphical user interface simplifies the navigation processes involved in the use of the software. Driver Whiz is evidently designed with user friendliness in mind and this is fairly obvious with the clearly labeled tabs and graphics explaining the scan results.
Help & support
Customer support can be directly contacted via email or telephone. An online knowledge base of user submitted problems is also available through the Driver Whiz website and contains useful information in regards to the proper use of the software. Although the customer support response time is quite good, a FAQ’s database or live chat support option would be beneficial for users.
Driver Whiz produces decent scan results and efficiently updates system drivers to the latest version. Two significant drawbacks of this software is the lack of information provided about its security policies and the fact that payment is required before you can see the driver list. As such, it is difficult to recommend this product.
