Full review

Uniblue is a company that is 100% devoted to the development of software that boosts the performance and stability of their customers' systems. They may not offer as broad a range of software as other developers, but this is not necessarily a bad thing. Rather, by concentrating solely on system-utility software, Uniblue has managed to consistently release top-notch products for more than 10 years. DriverScanner, one of Uniblue's latest offerings, is another system-utility product that aims to deliver better performance and more reliability.

Getting DriverScanner 2015 ready for its first scan is quick and easy. The installer is under 6MB, and the installation process takes less than a minute to complete. Aside from a few clicks, the installation is fully automated.

Scan performance

Once we had DriverScanner installed, it automatically ran a driver scan. As with the installation process, it was almost fully automated, and it took less than a minute to complete. The scan determined that 5 of our system's drivers were out of date. Clicking on an out-of-date driver presented us with a lot of useful information, including the hardware's manufacturer, the driver's date of release, and the version of the driver. Below the information concerning the outdated driver, the same type of information was listed for the new driver, which was certainly helpful. For users who have little interest in specific driver information, DriverScanner posts a graphic next to each out-of-date driver; it is designed to provide users with a general idea of how outdated their drivers actually are.

To test DriverScanner's ignore-driver feature while running the driver-update process, we removed one of these drivers from the update list. When we moved forward with the driver-update process, the excluded driver was successfully ignored while the other drivers were updated. To determine whether or not our system's out-of-date drivers had been updated successfully, we ran another driver scan. This time around, the driver scan reported that all of our drivers were up to date.

Driver database

Unfortunately, details regarding the number of drivers available in Uniblue's driver database are not available. However, judging from the results that our initial driver scan produced, we would wager that Uniblue has access to updated drivers for most commonly used hardware, such as printers, network cards, and input devices.

As a general rule, it is best to keep up-to-date drivers installed to maximize system performance. In some cases, however, the latest drivers may cause system instability and other problems. When this happens, it is nice to have an easy way to restore the drivers that were previously installed. DriverScanner provides users with a fully functional driver-restore feature. It creates a restore point each and every time a new driver is installed. Thanks to this feature, driver-related problems can be resolved quickly and easily, even by PC novices.

Scheduler – For users who prefer to automate system-utility tasks, this feature is perfect. It makes it possible for users to schedule scans for out-of-date drivers so that they are never required to run these scans manually.

Startup scan – With this feature enabled, DriverScanner scans for out-of-date drivers whenever Windows starts up.

Ease of use

DriverScanner is extremely easy to use. Not only can the majority of its tasks be automated, its simple interface is extremely easy to navigate through. Even complete novices should have absolutely no issues using this software effectively. DriverScanner manages to turn the maintenance of drivers, which is a relatively difficult task, into something that the average PC user can do on their own without much effort.

Help & support

Uniblue's website has an entire section devoted to customer support. Not only is there a detailed FAQ, the website also provides users with access to order information, product manuals, downloads, and more. Users can contact Uniblue's staff for technical support via e-mail. Unfortunately, they do not offer support via telephone.

Uniblue DriverScanner 2017 scans for out-of-date drivers and installs updated drivers quickly and reliably. Not only is this software effective, it is incredibly easy to use. Also, with a built-in restore function, this driver updater can be used without worries. Overall, DriverScanner 2017 is a great system utility that we highly recommend to PC users of all experience levels.
