Total revenues for the third quarter of 2013 were $2bn, a 60% increase on last years results and a 12% rise on the previous quarter. Nearly all of the revenue came from advertising.
Investors are likely to be encouraged by the news, but some what disappointed by Facebook announcing that it didn't plan to increase the frequency of its adverts to users.
Facebook also reported that mobile devices now account for just under half of its total advert revenue.
The impressive results are somewhat dampened by news that there is a decline in the number of teenagers using the website.
