Google plans to integrate its social network into its search results.
The new feature which is to be called Google Search plus Your World will embed various information from its Google+ social network into its search results.
Various members of Twitter's staff have voiced their disapproval. It is a "bad day for the internet" tweeted Alex Macgillivray. Twitter are concerned that Google is promoting its own social network at the expense of others in its own search results.
Search engine expert Paul Allen commented "The real-time information that Twitter provides is currently unrivalled. It has a huge active community, one that Google+ currently doesn't have. If Google chooses its own social network ahead of Twitter then self promotion is clearly evident."
Google have responded to the criticisms arguing that Twitter choose not to renew their search agreement last summer.
Facebook, Twitter and Google have all been in conflict with each other about how they share and distribute their data.
