Developed with guidance from relationship expert Dr. Pepper Schwartz, has become one of the fastest growing and most talked about dating websites in recent years. Its aimed at adults looking for serious long-term relationships and uses a scientific method of analyzing personality profiles to match people. With several other online dating websites offering similar type services we took a look at PerfectMatch to see if its worth signing-up.

Registration is free. But to be able to do so, you must be 18 years old or above. You must be a single, widowed, or divorced. Take note, however, that if you are legally separated, but not yet divorced, are not eligible to join.

You can take advantage of a few personality tests and features when you’re not signed-up, but there’s not much to do until you upgrade to paid subscription plan. All paid subscriptions are auto-renewed so remember to give yourself plenty of time to cancel if you decide not to carry on with your online love search.

Perfect match (like eHarmony) uses a scientific method of matching members. You'll begin by entering information into your profile and answering a series of questions about a series of key elements such as personality, lifestyle and values. Once this is complete your profile is assessed and you'll be matched with people based on similar and complementary personality traits. So unlike most matchmaking systems that match people based purely on their similarity, the system matches people who have complementary traits as well - its certainly an interesting idea.

The system will generate matches for you based on their matching system. You can browse through there profiles and decide if you want to take it any further. If you don't like the look of any of your matches you can then use traditional search tools to find potential matches.

To create more precise profiling, you can create DealBreakers. These things which you don't want in a relationship - so if you don't like pets, you can remove people who own pets to narrow down your matches.

With PerfectMatch you communicate in the standard ways – through email and through ‘poke’ or wink-like messages called IceBreakers. IceBreakers help you approach someone you like the look of. Choose from a set of pre-written questions designed to help you get to know the other person, send it to them and see if they respond. Further levels of IceBreakers are more personal and focus on the ideal relationship and what you want from it.

With a Basic membership you’re limited to communication via first-level IceBreakers, but when you’ve got a subscription you have access to all the other options. Platinum membership puts you higher in search results and lets you see and respond to messages from everyone.

There are no instant messaging tools.

The website supports the latest Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology - encrypting personal information and any credit card data during transmission.

They don’t share account information with third parties and they are approved by TRUSTe - who establish best practice and policy privacy issues.

Be cautious about what you reveal in your profile – the website gives advice against posting personal info like address and birth date. You can block people too if you feel like it.

Ease of use

When you explore the site’s overall look and feel, you’ll find out that it’s quite serious and certainly less fun than other online dating sites.

The website definitely has a style akin to hearing relationship advice on Oprah or looking through a self-help book. But it just helps confirm that this isn't a website for time wasters.

Generally the website is well designed, pages load quickly and the layout is designed in such a way that you won't find any difficulty in exploring your way around. All the features are easy to use and everything is explained clearly.

Help & support

The website has a list of Frequently Asked Questions to help you with common questions regarding membership and searches. There are also plenty of online dating guides, tips and advice.

PerfectMatch is designed for those looking for a serious relationship. So this isn't the website for you, if your looking for a bit of fun.

The standout feature of this dating website is the personality based profile matching system. Its definitely much more than a tick list of ‘likes’ and ‘dislikes’.

Give it a go – but only if you’re looking for a long-term relationship or marriage.
